Medford and Ashland: Shakespeare, Shopping,
Sunshine, and Sauvignon
Folks who have spent time in the
Medford-Ashland area generally come back as soon as they can. Whether it is
Ashland's charming downtown boutiques and eateries, Medford's working class
character and convenience, the authentic Shakespeare festival, tasty locally
made wines, its notariety as a gateway to phenomenal outdoor activities, or
weather that really can't get much better, there is something for everybody in
this neck of the Southern Oregon woods.
Medford, Oregon is a friendly
place with all major city amenities including a fantastic regional airport with
commercial service from throughout the country. Ashland is 15 minutes south of
Medford and 15 minutes north of the California-Oregon border. It is a small,
good energy place with a variety of unique locally owned businesses and outdoor
adventure destinations that result in a tapestry of discovery opportunities.
The world-famous Shakespeare festival, which produces a wealth of outdoor plays
and Olde English atmosphere, is a capping reason to explore this region. We
suggest you come visit. Odds are you will visit again.

Ashland
Dining: Where do we start...Oh yeah, start at
Beasy's on the Creek. This
restaurant is first class. Great scenery, great upscale menu, and great
service! For a bit more basic but very tasty chow and the home of icy an
Ashland Oregon microbrew how about the
Siskiyou Brew Pub?
Medford
Dining: Head to Rooster's
Homestyle Cooking and Pies. We are a sucker for great homestyle cooking and
pies. Because of that and the great friendly staff we find Rooster's to be
paradise.
Whitewater Rafting: The
closest whitewater tour to Ashland for the day is an
Upper
Klamath river rafting trip. This is a whitewater wonderland, with lots of
class III-IV+ rapids. Trips depart from Ashland daily. You may also want to
consider an
Umpqua
river rafting trip, near Crater Lake. Destination Wilderness offers trips
on both of these rivers and many others, inlcluding multi-day trips on the
world class
Rogue
river.

Rogue river jetboat trip is
offered through Hellgate Jetboat

Wine Tasting:
Considered for but ultimately rejected as a possible summer Olympic event, we
still recommend sipping a Syrah or Sauvignon while in Southern Oregon. Here is
why: some of the best wines in the world are produced within earshot of Ashland
and Medford. Consider: Paschal
Winery: A very close-to- Ashland
winery with a nice tasting room and great wines. Valley View Winery: For a great
ambience with a friendly staff and fantastic wines, consider this
Oregon Rogue Valley Wine maker.
Include spending time in historic Jacksonville as part of your wine tasting
experience!

opportunity to hike in the company of a caring guide and feel like you are

from Ashland to the nearby ski hill which makes for a great downhill ride!
Ashland Golf Courses: We recommend
Eagle Point Golf Course in the nearby town of Eagle Point for the best in
Southern Oregon golf courses. Their
phone number is 541-826-8225. Ashland Kayak Rentals: Check
out Kokopelli for kayak rentals and lessons. They are the leader in Southern
