Rogue River Hiking, Biking, and Kayaking: Premier Outdoor Adventure Activities

The kayaking on the Rogue river and hiking and biking along its shore and in the surrounding mountains is phenomenal. From multi-day wilderness immersions to two hour jaunts, the Rogue river backcountry is a great place to play!

Experienced kayakers may want to tackle the Wild and Scenic Section of the Rogue for a three or more day trip through pristine wilderness. Rogue river inflatable kayaking with outfitters is a great way for first-timers to see the river from your own craft. The Rogue river trail, which provides 30-plus miles of riverside and mountain bliss, is a world class hiking trail featuring amazing scenery, a well-marked and kept trail, and solitude. Finally, the mountain biking, not allowed on the Wild and Scenic trail but found in many other areas of the Rogue, ranges from mellow to quite challenging.

For more info please see the Rogue river activity options below:

Activities near Prospect and Crater Lake: Great hiking and mountain biking. Contact the Union Creek Ranger Station for more info.

Activities near Shady Cove: Mellow kayaking, nice hiking and good biking. For more info see

Activities near Medford/Ashland: A fun and invigorating kayaking trip with two class IV rapids on the Nugget run between Ashland and Medford; hiking in the mountains around Ashland; and mountain biking all over the place.

Activities near Grants Pass: The entire section of river from Grants Pass to the beginning of the Wild and Scenic Section is class I-II+, so the kayaking is great for folks just wanting an easier day. There is good mountain biking in the hills between Grants Pass and Galice. The hiking is good here too.

Activities in the Wild and Scenic Section: Premier multi-day kayaking and hiking, but no mountain biking.

Activities near Gold Beach: Good hiking near Agness and along the coast; good kayak touring on the lower Rogue--no whitewater and watch for motorboats; good mountain biking in the mountains just east of Gold Beach.
